PASTOR'S THOUGHTS

March 2, 2010

It was just a year ago that we conducted our Blessed to be a Blessing capital and stewardship campaign. The Holy Spirit was in our midst as the congregation gave more than $1.1 million for the capital effort, enough to secure the safety of our sanctuary for decades to come, and increased donations for the annual operating budget. The gifts are also allowing us to engage in a new ministry of building a clean water system in the Yucatan and reduce our debt from the Vision Campaign of a decade ago.

Now is the time for us to Count our Blessings.

  • What a blessing it is to welcome visitors in worship each week! Have you noticed that worship is getting more crowded?
  • What a privilege it is to get to know our 20 new adult members and their families.
  • What a joy it is to watch our Cherub children's choir double in size to 16.
  • What a gift it is to see our older adults engaged in vital forms of ministry.
  • What a treasure it is to have a family of faith to pray with us and for us.
  • What a celebration it is to remember our rich heritage.
  • What an honor it is to reach out with God's love to those in need, including cooking 1,464 meals for HomeFront last year.
  • What a responsibility it is to be the Body of Christ!
Now is the time to look up to God with prayers of thanksgiving, review our blessings, and consider our response for the coming year. Our elders, deacons and committee members are hard at work and active in prayer, eager to follow where Christ leads us. Your giving to our operating budget allows the church to expand our programs, support the staff and launch new ministries.

Some have asked me, "How much should I give?” The Bible offers the model of the tithe, offering God 10 percent of one's income. It's a spiritual discipline that reminds us that all we are and all that we have are gifts of God. If tithing is not part of your spiritual life, I would encourage you to pray about it and to move toward a tithe in incremental steps.

The prayer from our Blessed to be a Blessing campaign last year is appropriate each time we ponder our gifts to the church: "Lord, what do you want to do through me to accomplish your vision for this church?”

Stewardship dedication Sunday will be March 14. Please bring your pledge card to worship, drop it by the church office or put it in the mail. Every gift of every size is a blessing when given in response to God's love. I count this church as a wonderful blessing in my life. I hope you do, as well.

In Christ,

Nancy Mikoski

Pastor
